His teacher mentioned concerns to me around how he doesn’t follow directions well with step by step coloring worksheets, chose to color a picture black instead of using multiple colors (he makes art at home nearly every day and has made tons of colorful pictures), etc. This was frustrating to me. Starting to worry about my instinct that the teaching methods are too structured. He mentioned the teacher correcting him during projects at school. Thanks for sharing this...Jessica AZ16https://www.blogger.com/profile/13365157977206677791noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7226403112372433374.post-80546996247336980952012-09-23T18:19:27.612-07:002012-09-23T18:19:27.612-07:00Ahhh, thanks my dear friend MM :) Can't wait t...Ahhh, thanks my dear friend MM :) Can't wait to work with YOU again because you have always had that 'be that teacher' quality since the first day you stepped in the classroom. Sometimes I get irritated that there's play-dough plugging up the holes in my colander again or that I've found another row of sticky tape rolls dangling like bells from the kitchen table, or that another roll of toilet paper has been used to make an Antarctic landscape! But this post has given me fresh appreciation of the work and intention behind the chaos.Sarahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14432884881847945178noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7226403112372433374.post-11894521043305191182012-01-02T15:08:56.529-08:002012-01-02T15:08:56.529-08:00@Alissa and @Shelley - thanks for your support and...@Alissa and @Shelley - thanks for your support and comments :) Happy New Year!Jeanne Zuechhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04937382280710368749noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7226403112372433374.post-35723437592314095272012-01-02T14:06:22.068-08:002012-01-02T14:06:22.068-08:00Love this! I also love the end where you listed essential skills the children are learning as you allow them the space to do this. I think that is where many teachers struggle and why parents tend say things like "but they're just playing." We need to find ways to articulate all that is happening when they "just play."Shelley @Little Explorershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01778596918349813284noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7226403112372433374.post-50654788391000772902012-01-02T11:23:55.402-08:002012-01-02T11:23:55.402-08:00This is beautiful, no wonder it's your favorit...This is beautiful, no wonder it's your favorite post of 2011. As well, though, usually teachers who are open to children being meaning makers also RELY on children not sitting still, making noises and having opinions :)Jeanne Zuechhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04937382280710368749noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7226403112372433374.post-81114102630725124532011-06-15T16:18:54.923-07:002011-06-15T16:18:54.923-07:00Agreed!!
